Pend Oreille Cup - 2012

The Sandpoint Strikers FC proudly presents the 31st  Annual  Pend  Oreille Cup on September 7–9, 2012. We would like to invite all teams U9 – U15 to this exciting soccer tournament located in beautiful Sandpoint, Idaho.  We are the outdoor recreation mecca of the northwest, with hiking, mountain biking on famous Schweitzer mountain, fishing, boating or just sunbathing at Sandpoint’s City Beach on Lake Pend Oreille. Come for the great Indian summer weather and  fantastic competitive soccer.  Each team is guaranteed at least three games during the tournament.

Thank you to all the teams who registered and/or are interested in the Pend Oreille Cup. We received the largest number of teams in our 31 year history and had to limit our tournament to 120 teams.

Welcome to the 2012 Pend Oreille Cup

On behalf of the entire tournament board, we would like to welcome all participants and spectators to the 31st annual Pend Oreille Cup. We hope you will join us in making this another great weekend of soccer. Please enjoy your time in Sandpoint.

This year's competition level should prove to be very exciting. We have 120 teams participating with many traveling from the neighboring states in the Northwest as well as Canada.

Our goal is to provide a competitive environment while also promoting the spirit of the game. Please keep the first four principals of the FIFA Fair Play code in mind this weekend as you enjoy the games.

  • Play Fair.
  • Play to win but accept defeat with dignity.
  • Observe the Laws of the Game.
  • Respect opponents, teammates, referees, officials, and spectators.

We would also like to encourage parents to remember that the final score is only one way of measuring success on the field. As you watch your sons and daughters, look for the elements of the game that they are successful with. Praise the good first touch or great team shape that you see in the games. Each team and each player will have success on the field this weekend. Let’s make sure every player knows how well they played.

As a final reminder to all spectators and players, please be kind to the referees and lines people. We are thankful that the referee crews are here helping us with the tournament. We would expect that there will be some calls that you do not agree with. Cheer the players and encourage them to play hard but try to refrain from being critical of the referee crew.

This tournament is made possible by the hard work of many individuals. We would like to thank our sponsors and tournament volunteers for their efforts in making this one of the premier tournaments in the Northwest. In particular we would like to thank Diane Rich, Marcy Mione, Cathy Hunsaker, Michele Bristow, Leo Hunsaker, Debi Ward, and Alicia Moore.

Thanks again for participating in the 31st annual Pend Oreille Cup!

Good luck in your games.
